About this page: Remodelling Contractors London is a free enquiry service run by Web Designer Limited (trading as Zoib). We pass enquiries to independent kitchen fitters and remodelling contractors; we don’t carry out the work, and we can’t guarantee that every enquiry is taken up. Figures below are quoted from the named sources with their dates; they are not our prices. More about this site.
The published figures
We don’t set prices. These are UK figures quoted from Checkatrade’s cost guides as they read on 20 October 2026. Checkatrade says they are verified by estimators who are RICS and CIOB members. They are ballpark averages, not quotes.

What makes up the total
Checkatrade’s new kitchen guide (March 2026) breaks the total into these components:
| Item | Small kitchen | Large kitchen | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| Units | £1,500 | £10,000 | £3,000 |

| Flooring | £500 | £2,000 | £750 |
| Total | £5,250 | £28,400 | £10,550 |
The same guide gives worktop prices for a 5 m run of about £200–£800 for laminate, £300–£900 for wood, £500–£1,100 for quartz and £550–£1,150 for granite.
Full renovation figures
Checkatrade’s October 2026 renovation guide prices the work to fit a kitchen at £3,700 to £9,300 (average about £5,200), and units at £1,500 to £10,000 supply-only. It treats specification and how much you change behind the scenes as the biggest factors. Moving plumbing, gas or electrics and choosing bespoke cabinetry or premium finishes can quickly increase the cost.
Costs people forget
- Plastering: about £1,100 for a small room or £1,900 for a large one, according to the new kitchen guide.
- A complete kitchen rewire: around £1,000 on electrics, according to the same guide.
- Waste: a 6–8 yard builder’s skip averages about £320 a week. A skip on the road needs a skip licence from the council.
- Gas: a Gas Safe registered engineer to disconnect or connect gas appliances.
- Design fees, building control fees and structural engineer fees if walls move.
- Contingency for problems found when the old kitchen comes out.
Why London quotes are usually higher
Checkatrade’s new kitchen guide notes that labour tends to cost more in cities, especially London. Its fitting guide says kitchen fitter costs in London and the South East are typically higher than elsewhere in the UK. It doesn’t publish a London-only total, so treat the UK figures above as a starting point and get itemised local quotes. Parking, skip permits, lease conditions in flats and older housing stock can all add time and cost.
If you are adding space as well, our sister site home-extensions.co.uk (also run by Web Designer Limited) covers kitchen extension costs.
How to budget
- Decide the scope: refresh, refit in the same layout, or full renovation.
- Choose the units, worktops and appliances early, or set an allowance for each, so quotes are comparable.
- Get written, itemised quotes from at least three traders, as Citizens Advice recommends.
- Agree staged payments tied to completed work, and keep a contingency.

Checkatrade’s March 2026 guide gives about £5,250 to £28,400 for a new kitchen including units, worktops, appliances, fitting, plumbing, electrics and flooring, with an average of about £10,550. High-end kitchens are priced separately and cost more.
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in London?
There isn’t a published London-only figure. Checkatrade’s October 2026 UK guide gives £6,200 to £16,800 for a budget renovation and £15,000 to £50,000 for a bespoke one, and says labour tends to cost more in London. Get itemised local quotes.
What is the most expensive part of a new kitchen?
In Checkatrade’s breakdown, units have the highest average (£3,000), followed by installation (£3,000) and appliances (£2,000). Bespoke cabinetry, premium worktops and moving services can change that balance.
