About this page: Remodelling Contractors London is a free enquiry service run by Web Designer Limited (trading as Zoib). We pass enquiries to independent kitchen fitters and remodelling contractors; we don’t carry out the work, and we can’t guarantee that every enquiry is taken up. Figures below are quoted from the named sources with their dates; they are not our prices. More about this site.
Published labour figures
These figures are quoted from Checkatrade’s kitchen fitting cost guide as it read on 20 October 2026. They are UK ballpark averages, not quotes, and we don’t set prices.

By kitchen size
The same guide gives labour-only examples for a mid-range kitchen:
- Small kitchen (8 cabinets, 3 appliances): about £2,000.
- Medium kitchen (12 cabinets, 3 appliances): about £3,500.
- Large kitchen (16 cabinets, 3 appliances): about £5,000.
It gives an average fitting time of about 10 working days, depending on size and scope.
What the price usually includes
- Removing the existing kitchen.
- Fitting new units and worktops.
- Installing the sink, taps and appliances.
- Plastering, painting and tiling, if requested.
Checkatrade notes that a fitter won’t collect or store your kitchen or supply missing parts, and that time spent waiting for deliveries isn’t included. Make sure everything has arrived and been checked before the fitter starts.
Extra trades and costs
- A plumber to connect taps and appliances to the supply (about £50 an hour in the guide).
- An electrician for lighting, the extractor and appliance circuits. A new circuit is notifiable under Approved Document P.
- A Gas Safe registered engineer to disconnect or connect gas appliances. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card.
- A builder for any structural work.
- Lighting: the guide gives about £200 for six recessed spotlights and about £265 for four under-cabinet lights.
- Tiling labour at around £300 a day, and a painter and decorator at around £300 a day.
Day rates vs fixed quotes
Citizens Advice recommends a fixed total price rather than a day rate. If you do agree a day rate, it suggests putting in writing how many days the work will take, how many hours count as a day, and when the trader needs your go-ahead to work extra days. Checkatrade’s fitting guide also says kitchen fitter costs in London and the South East are typically higher than elsewhere in the UK.
For the full cost including the kitchen itself, see new kitchen cost. For hiring checks, see kitchen fitters in London. To send an enquiry, use the form. We pass enquiries to independent fitters and contractors and don’t do the work ourselves.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to have a kitchen fitted?
Checkatrade’s 2026 guide gives about £2,000 to £6,000 for the labour to fit an average-sized family kitchen, with an average of about £3,500. That excludes the kitchen itself, appliances and separate trades.
What is a kitchen fitter’s day rate?
Checkatrade gives £280 to £360 a day (average £320) across the UK, and says London and South East rates are typically higher. Multi-skilled fitters who also do plumbing and electrics usually charge more.
Does kitchen fitting include removing the old kitchen?
Usually, yes, but check. Removal of the waste may be extra; Checkatrade lists skip hire for kitchen removal at about £200 to £250 a week.
Is a quote better than a day rate?
Citizens Advice recommends a fixed total price, with the work and materials broken down, VAT shown and how long the price is valid, so the cost doesn’t grow if the job takes longer.
